The international conference ‘’Emerging Pollutants in Water’’ took place in Belgrade, from July 9th to 11th 2013, at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU).
The organizers were: United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) along with its International Hydrological Programme (IHP), UNESCO’s Category 2 Centre for ‘’Water for Sustainable Development and Adaptation to Climate Change’’ (WSDAC), ‘’Jaroslav Černi’’ Institute for Water Management, and the Serbian Water Pollution Control Society.
At the opening ceremony, the guests and participants were addressed by the following speakers: Mr. Milan Dimkić, PhD – the CEO of the ’’Jaroslav Černi’’ Water Management Institute, Ms Blanca Elena Jiménez Cisneros, PhD from UNESCO, Mr. Heinz‐Jurgen Brauch, PhD from DVGW/TZW, as well as by the representatives of the Serbian Ministry of Education and Science, and SANU.
During the course of the conference, leading Serbian and foreign experts presented the latest methods and research concerning the presence of emerging pollutants in water, covering the following subjects:
- Analytical methods for identifying emerging pollutants and the products of their
transformation; - Emerging pollutants’ toxicity, and their water‐related characteristics (degradability, solubility, sorption…);
- Emerging pollutants’ emission and treatment;
- Emerging pollutants’ emergence and fate in surface and ground water, as well as mathematical modelling.
