Representatives of the Centre for Water for Sustainable Development and Adaptation to Climate Change (WSDAC) participated in the online side event organized by the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe dedicated to the role of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in advancing sustainable and inclusive water management. WSDAC was represented by Dr. Brankica Majkić-Dursun, Director of the Centre.
The side event highlighted the transformative potential of STI in addressing contemporary water challenges, while emphasizing the importance of integrating gender-responsive approaches into water policies, practices, and innovation systems. Building on the findings of the United Nations World Water Development Report 2026 and regional experiences, participants discussed how the integration of STI and gender equality can contribute to strengthening resilience, improving decision-making processes, and promoting more inclusive and sustainable water governance.
The event gathered representatives of international organizations, research institutions, policymakers, and water professionals, providing an important platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences related to innovation, capacity development, and equitable participation in the water sector.
