Paris, 28 October 2025 – UNESCO hosted an online session at Science Po University, “Climate, Cryosphere and Water Resources: Scientific Pathways for a Climate-Resilient Society”, marking ten years since the Paris Agreement. The session highlighted the devastating consequences of floods and extreme weather events, stressing the urgent need for reflection, action, and science-based solutions to enhance water and cryosphere resilience.
Through a keynote, opening remarks, and a panel discussion, participants explored climate impacts on water systems, ecosystems, and communities. UNESCO initiatives presented included the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation 2025, the Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences (2025–2034), resilient water management tools, biosphere reserves, and the role of Indigenous and local knowledge in adaptation.
Speakers included Abou Amani, Charles Tellier, Bhanu Neupane, Khalissa Ikhlef, Angela Wagner, and Mahmoud Radwan, with Alexandre Germouty moderating. The session engaged students, researchers, policymakers, and diplomats, offering a platform for the next generation to shape science-based responses to climate challenges.
