UNESCO Webinar: The Role of Water Education and Capacity Development in a Changing World

On 25 November 2025, UNESCO hosted a webinar titled “The Role of Water Education and Capacity Development in a Changing World” as part of its IHP 50th Anniversary series, focusing on the frontiers of global water science. Dr Vesna Tripković and Dr Brankica Majkić-Dursun participated in online event. The event brought together large number of participants and featured opening remarks by Dr. Abu Amani, Director of UNESCO’s Division of Water Sciences, highlighting water education as a critical game-changer for achieving Science for the Sustainable Development Goals, SDG 6. Professor Graham Jewitt from IHE Delft presented on preparing future water leaders, emphasizing the integration of technical expertise, leadership skills, and emerging technologies such as AI in water education. Dr. Martijn van Steveren and Professor Zongbo Yu closed the session with reflections on global initiatives, including the Global Water Education Network and capacity development programs, underlining the importance of collective action, youth engagement, and inclusive leadership to address water challenges worldwide. The webinar reinforced UNESCO’s commitment to advancing water education, fostering global partnerships, and equipping the next generation of water leaders to achieve sustainable water management.
